Taking care of your wood board
Each of our serving boards is treated with a proper oiling using 100% food safe wood oils and conditioned with our Black Rock Artisans Wood Wax upon shipping.
Regular maintenance.
Oil your board (top, bottom & sides) every 4 weeks or so. Use a food-grade mineral oil or a butcher block oil like Walrus Oil or Howards Cutting Board Oil. Then condition the board with our Black Rock Artisans Wood Wax, or other commercial wood conditioners like Walrus Wax or Howard's Butcher Block Conditioner.
How to sanitize your serving board.
Use warm water and a mild detergent to wash the board, then rinse with clean water, dry with a clean dish towel and leave it to air dry completely.
For raw meat, grease stains and odors.
Use a paste of salt and lemon juice and lightly scrub the surface of the board. Then rinse with clean water, dry with a clean dish towel and allow to air dry completely.
Do not let water or juice sit on a board for too long.
WHAT NOT TO DO WITH YOUR SERVING BOARD.
DO NOT set hot pots and pans on boards.
DO NOT use bread knives on serving boards. Bread knife = Saw
NEVER put wooden cookware through the dishwasher.
DO NOT stab at boards with knives or forks.
DO NOT soak or submerge serving boards in water.
DO NOT use scrubbing brushes or scouring pads to clean serving boards.
NEVER use vegetable based oils to condition your cutting board (Olive oil, Canola oil, Coconut oil, etc.) Over time these oils will go rancid and rot your serving board and contaminate food.
Face lift..
Over time the surface may become a little rough. Lightly sand the surface with a 320 - 400 grit sandpaper, clean off the dust, then oil and condition the board.
